History
Our department was established in 1998.
The Department of English Language and Literature, affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, provides four years of formal education. The medium of instruction is English, except for common compulsory courses and elective courses that can be taken outside the department.
There are eight faculty members in our department, including four associate professors and three research assistants.
All students who qualify to study at the department take the foreign language proficiency exam. Students who are successful in the exam begin their first year at the Department of English Language and Literature. Those who fail receive one year of English Language Preparatory Program.
The main goal of the Department of English Language and Literature is to train qualified researchers in the field of English Language and Literature and to conduct education and research on English literature and culture.
In order to enroll in the English Language and Literature Undergraduate program, it is necessary to have a high school diploma or an equivalent diploma received from abroad and to have received a sufficient grade from Foreign Language Exam (YDS) conducted as part of the Student Selection Exam (ÖSS).
The undergraduate diploma is awarded to students who have passed all the courses taken until the end of 8 semesters and obtained a diploma grade of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.

When our English Language and Literature Undergraduate Program graduates receive a diploma, they can become English teachers or lecturers in many public/private schools and universities. In addition to professions such as translating, writing or editing, our graduates can also work in sectors that require knowledge of culture and literature, such as the tourism sector, ministries, banks, state and private media organizations. In addition to professions in secondary education institutions and academic institutions, they can work in various public and private organizations and in the foreign relations and European Union departments of ministries.
